Inspiration

One of the members of our team, Ria, is a student moving to the UK soon for college. She shared with us that she was overwhelmed when applying for student visas and accommodation, unsure of how she was going to integrate into the new culture, and faced with a lack of adequate channels to seek help... And then we wondered, were these experiences of hers shared experiences of the international student community?

As such, we decided to do more research on the process of overseas students moving to Singapore, hoping to investigate whether these issues were similarly paradigmatic across different contexts, primarily our own.

What it does

Peer to peer pairing system between international students coming to Singapore and local students and mentors, based on various parameters, such as hobbies and preferred leisure activities.

How we built it

Python back-end built on Flask, with React.js for web-end.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into difficulty finding much information, data and studies done on international students in a local context.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to create a workable prototype, with functional features in our MVP.

What we learned

We learnt various web frameworks and technologies, as well as techniques in conducting qualitative and quantitative research.

What's next for Nexus

We plan on implementing more features on our web application to provide a more comprehensive and holistic experience for our end users.
