Nexus

Inspiration

As a creator, I often move between ChatGPT, image tools, Google Flow/Veo, local folders, and After Effects just to create one final video. Nexus was inspired by the need to bring that scattered workflow into one focused creative workspace.

What it does

Nexus is an AI Studio Panel for After Effects. It lets creators refine prompts, generate images, create image-to-video assets, preview outputs, organize project assets, plan sequences, and import results directly into After Effects.

How I built it

I built Nexus as an Adobe After Effects CEP extension with a local Node.js backend. It connects OpenAI for prompt and image workflows, Google/Veo for video generation, and After Effects scripts for importing assets and building sequences.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge was connecting multiple platforms into one smooth workflow inside After Effects. I also had to solve OAuth setup, Google Cloud storage downloads, asset persistence, CEP limitations, and reliable communication between the panel, backend, and After Effects.

Accomplishments that I am proud of

I built a working AI production panel inside After Effects, not just a prototype. Nexus can generate assets, download videos automatically, preview results, store project assets, and assemble planned shots into an After Effects composition.

What I learned

I learned that the real value of AI for creators is not only generation, but workflow. Bringing AI closer to where editing happens can save time, reduce friction, and make creative production feel more natural.

What's next for Nexus

Next, I want to improve multi-shot production, add richer asset search and tagging, support more AI providers, and make Nexus easier to install for other After Effects creators.
