Inspiration

Navigating a completely new system as you age isn't easy. More specifically, finding new accommodations for housing, healthcare, and overall transitioning to a new lifestyle can present a multitude of challenges. With NextStep, we want to make that process easier.

What it does

NextStep provides resources and personalized recommendations to help navigating elder care and life easier. It utilizes geospatial data from Google in addition to medical data to provide recommendations on housing and care. Future versions of the application could include recommendations for activities and dining in the area to help optimize picking a new home.

How we built it

NextStep was developed primarily utilizing the Databricks vertical stack, with other AI tools referenced for specific tasks.

Challenges we ran into

Data quality and quantity were a challenge, in addition to certain parts of the vertical stack. We tackled these challenges as a team, all while trying to deliver in a matter of hours.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to think thoroughly about a solution that would provide benefits to the world, while also finding a use case that can extend to benefit our professional work.

What we learned

In a crunch, frontend is everything. Additionally, the app development process has changed so much with AI and the vertical integration available through Databricks and other one-off tools.

What's next for NextStep

We plan to iterate on this product and use it as a POC to show our NetOps team how we can quickly develop applications to help the business, enabled through Databricks' vertical stack.
