Inspiration
Many college students and freshers struggle to create professional resumes that pass through automated Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Traditional builders are outdated, hard to customize, and lack AI assistance. We wanted to build a modern, intuitive platform that makes crafting a standout resume as easy as filling out a simple form.
What it does
NextHire AI is a smart resume maker featuring a stunning, modern glassmorphism UI. Users can input their details into a dynamic form while seeing a real-time, A4-scaled live preview of their resume. The platform integrates the Google Gemini AI API to instantly enhance user-written bullet points—transforming basic descriptions into impactful, action-oriented professional text. It also features a built-in ATS Score Analyzer and allows for instant, 1-click PDF exports.
How we built it
We built the application using the Next.js 15 App Router for a blazing-fast frontend. For the design system, we utilized Tailwind CSS to create a premium SaaS aesthetic featuring dark mode and frosted glass UI elements, while Framer Motion powers the smooth page transitions. The AI Enhancement engine runs on the Google GenAI SDK (Gemini 2.5 Flash), and we implemented the final document generation using html2canvas and jsPDF. The entire project is deployed via GitHub Actions and hosted on GitHub Pages.
Challenges we ran into
Configuring the Next.js application to safely export as a purely static site for GitHub Pages while maintaining the AI integration was a major hurdle. We originally planned to use Next.js Server Actions to hide the API key, but had to architect a client-side fallback system that seamlessly works within the static deployment constraints of GitHub Pages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of the Live Preview feature! Getting the split-pane editor to instantly scale and render an exact A4-sized document in the browser without any lag feels extremely premium. We are also thrilled with how well the Gemini AI model rewrites awkward bullet points into highly professional text in under a second.
What we learned
We learned a massive amount about Next.js static exports, building complex responsive layouts using CSS Grid and Flexbox for printable A4 documents, and how to effectively prompt engineer the Gemini 2.5 Flash model for structured, professional outputs.
What's next for NextHire AI
In the future, we plan to implement user authentication (via Supabase or Firebase) so users can save multiple resume templates. We also want to introduce a "Resume Roast Mode" for fun, AI-generated critiques, and a direct LinkedIn profile importer!
