NextFlick

Inspiration

While brainstorming endlessly for our hackathon project, we were reminded of the time we wanted to watch a movie together but couldn't agree on anything. NextFlick was inspired by this common problem, we wanted to make an app that was as easy and fun as watching a movie!

What it does

Using a scroll based interface, it recommends the most popular films and tv shows of all genres, where you’re able add the movies to your liked-list in order to watch them later.

How we built it

Using flutter, we built the user interface and integrated TMDb API for real-time movie information with images, and trailers.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we had was implementing the API to retrieve information about each movie/show, such as the rating and trailers.

What we learned

How to manage our time and effectively organize ourselves to complete small tasks at a time. We also learned how API’s are used and how they can improve our projects

What's next for NextFlick

Integrating more advanced AI to provide personalised movie and show recommendations based on the users preferences, such as cast and genre. We would also like to enhance the app with features such as parental guides, streaming availability, and UI improvements, and using a database that's able to track and save user progress.
