Next Trip - Team #24, 24

Inspiration

The inspiration for this project comes from the ever-growing global climate crisis mixed with the long-awaited vacations that we all are looking forward to. But it isn't just us. Everyone wants to travel when it is deemed safe, and when that happens, the climate crisis will begin again. Every mode of transportation, every trip that we make, will result in something that will be very challenging for us to control in the long run. So, what if we could still go on those vacations but in a eco-friendly way? Enter Next Trip, the app that lets users choose where they want to go and displays local events that they may want to attend in an attempt to both have fun and do some good for the planet we all love.

What it does

The app asks the user to enter their name, email, and create a password to make an account. They are then greeted by a home screen after which the user can decide to either take a short quiz to find places they could visit based on their preferences (scenery and activity), search for events at the places they plan to visit and add them to their itinerary or customize their profile to connect with other users.

How we built it

We built the app prototype using Figma.

Challenges we ran into

Not being able to actually code the app and enable many of the features we wanted to include plus some confusing Figma settings. As first-time Figma users, this experience was both a challenge and a learning curve to acquiring knowledge about UI, UX design and prototype software. Along with this, we had a shortage of team members and small team of only two members but we managed to persevere through and accomplish our goals together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The app design and the idea of mixing the want to travel and the need for environmental awareness and conservation. Also, we are happy that we got much more familiar with Figma and its features.

What we learned

How to use Figma for app prototyping. Specifically, how to connect UI elements and components and the process of planning, building, and testing and making sure that user experience is at it's optimal level (or at least the best that it can be).

What's next for Next Trip

Adding more features like hotel and flight booking, carbon footprint stats for each user, and making an actual app using mobile app development software and tools (like Android Studio or Xcode!) that can bring our vision to reality and make a positive difference in someone's life!
