Inspiration
Attending career fairs ourselves, we found it challenging to connect with relevant employers and discover meaningful opportunities. If this is difficult for us, we believe it is even harder for at-risk youths, especially those with low self-esteem, to find opportunities and break free from the cycle of poverty. This motivated us to create a solution that reduces barriers and promotes equal access to opportunities.
What it does
NexSwap aims to reduce inequality by connecting at-risk youths to relevant employers based on complementary strengths. Through a seamless and user-friendly interface, it minimizes barriers to entry for job seekers, offering equal opportunities and access to relevant career paths.
How we built it
We combined hardware and software to create an innovative system. At career fairs, companies at booths and job seekers are equipped with devices (ESP32). When a match is detected, the devices interact and light up. Job seekers can instantly send resumes to companies via NFC and track their resume views and approvals through our interface, which stores data securely on AWS.
Challenges we ran into
Developing the hardware was particularly challenging. Debugging issues like short circuits, insufficient power, or incorrect soldering required meticulous effort and problem-solving to ensure functionality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Within just one day, we successfully built a functional hardware prototype and a simple yet effective interface that uploads and stores data on AWS. This rapid progress validates the feasibility of our concept.
What we learned
Being able to ideate, create and adapt within 24 hours is a good experience.
What's next for NexSwap
If this idea is well received, we plan to bring it to life and revolutionise how we interact at career fairs.
