Nexora—Build the Circuit. Understand the System.
Inspiration
Computer engineering combines creativity, electronics, programming, and problem-solving. However, turning an idea into a hardware design often means learning multiple complicated tools before building anything.
We created Nexora to make that process more accessible.
Our goal was to build a platform where beginners could learn hardware engineering through hands-on experimentation, while experienced developers could prototype ideas more efficiently. We wanted to bring 3D design, circuit schematics, component information, and AI assistance together into one intuitive workspace.
What It Does
Nexora is an AI-powered hardware design platform that helps users turn electronic ideas into interactive designs.
Users can build and explore 3D hardware assemblies, choose PCB configurations, connect components through a schematic editor, review electrical compatibility, and work with firmware—all within the same application.
Nexora also includes an AI engineering assistant that helps users understand components, identify design problems, and propose changes to their projects.
What makes Nexora different is its combination of visual learning, engineering tools, and AI assistance. Beginners gain a more approachable introduction to computer engineering, while experienced users gain a streamlined environment for exploring hardware concepts.
How We Built It
We developed Nexora using a modern web-based technology stack:
- React & TypeScript: Interactive frontend
- Vite: Fast development environment
- Three.js & React Three Fiber: Interactive 3D visualization
- Zustand: Project state management
- Monaco Editor: Firmware code editing
- Python & FastAPI: Backend API
- OpenAI API: AI engineering assistance
- Vitest & Playwright: Application testing
We began with the 3D hardware workspace and gradually integrated component management, schematic connections, PCB configurations, engineering reviews, and AI-assisted design actions.
Our development approach focused on connecting these features into a unified workflow rather than building separate tools.
Challenges We Faced
One of our biggest challenges was keeping the 3D workspace, circuit schematics, and project data synchronized. A component added or modified in one area needed to remain consistent throughout the application.
Building electrical compatibility checks was another challenge because electronic components have different pin configurations, voltage requirements, and communication interfaces. We introduced structured component information and rule-based validation while distinguishing verified specifications from demonstration data.
We also worked through interface alignment, responsive layouts, project persistence, and automated testing to make the application more reliable and easier to navigate.
What We Learned
Building Nexora strengthened our understanding of full-stack development, interactive 3D rendering, electrical engineering concepts, state management, and AI integration.
More importantly, we learned that AI becomes significantly more useful when it works alongside real application functionality, rather than simply answering questions.
We also learned the importance of balancing ambitious features with practical development time, especially when building a working prototype under hackathon deadlines.
Why Nexora Matters
Nexora demonstrates how hardware engineering can become more interactive, approachable, and connected.
Instead of treating circuit design, programming, visualization, and AI as separate experiences, we bring them together in one environment.
Our vision is simple: make it easier for anyone to go from an idea to a hardware design—regardless of their experience level.
Nexora is a hackathon prototype intended for learning, visualization, and early-stage design exploration, not a replacement for professional circuit simulation or manufacturing verification.
