Inspiration

I have been in Healthcare IT for over 10 years. The most challenging part of my role was not being able to provide clinical intelligence to the clinicians and the clinical research teams as most of the clinical data was locked in medical documents such as referrals, progress notes and discharge letters.

What it does

This project aims to extract clinical information from such documents in csv format which then can be uploaded to any database. Once the data is in a database format any type of clinical intelligence can be performed on the data.

How we built it

I used a web app development platform called Anvil, https://anvil.works/. All the code is in Python

Challenges we ran into

Learning the ins and outs of ComprehendMedical API was challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Achieving what I set out, which was extracting structured data from medical documents.

What we learned

Calling AWS APIs, how to process files in S3 bucket, processing JSON files and improving Python skills.

What's next for MedTeXtract Clinical Data Extracting Tool

Finding clients and helping organisations to build true clinical data repositories.
