NEXO: Connecting Campus Communities

Inspiration

We were inspired by how disconnected campus communities can feel—students often miss out on events, while clubs and companies struggle to reach their audience. We wanted to build a platform that bridges this gap, helping users discover, share, and engage with opportunities all in one place.

What It Does

NEXO serves as a centralized event hub that connects students, clubs, and organizations. It allows users to browse, post, and interact with events in real-time, promoting stronger campus engagement and awareness.

How We Built It

We built NEXO using Supabase for backend database and authentication, Express.js for the server-side framework, and Cursor AI to streamline collaboration and development. The project was designed with scalability and ease of use in mind.

Challenges We Ran Into

Integrating multiple systems, ensuring real-time data sync, and maintaining a smooth, responsive UI were key challenges. We also faced obstacles in authentication and data flow, which we resolved through iteration and testing.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

We built a fully functional prototype that allows users to connect through events in an intuitive and visually appealing way. We're proud of our teamwork, creative design, and how we turned a concept into a working solution within the hackathon timeframe.

What We Learned

We learned how to effectively use AI-assisted tools like Cursor to accelerate development, collaborate efficiently under time constraints, and integrate modern backend frameworks like Supabase with ease.

What's Next for NEXO

Next, we plan to:

  • Add AI-based event recommendations for personalized experiences
  • Integrate Google Calendar and social sharing for seamless scheduling
  • Expand beyond schools to include local businesses and community organizations
  • Launch a beta version to collect user feedback and improve usability
