Project Story
Inspiration
NexCart was inspired by the growing complexity of modern e-commerce platforms and the need for a simpler, smarter shopping experience. Most online stores are either too cluttered or not personalized enough. I wanted to build a platform that feels modern, fast, and intelligent — where AI actively helps users find what they need instead of just listing products.
I was also inspired by modern UI trends like Glassmorphism and the idea of combining AI assistants with everyday shopping to make the experience more interactive and human-like.
What it does
NexCart is a full-stack e-commerce platform that allows users to browse, search, and purchase products in a seamless interface.
It includes:
- A complete shopping system (cart, checkout, product browsing)
- AI-powered shopping assistant for recommendations
- Authentication system with user roles (user/admin)
- Dark and light mode support
- Responsive design for all devices
- Smart product discovery (trending, deals, new arrivals, featured)
How we built it
NexCart was built using a modern full-stack JavaScript ecosystem:
- Frontend: React 18 + TypeScript + Vite
- Styling: Tailwind CSS with Glassmorphism effects
- UI Components: shadcn/ui
- Backend & Database: Supabase (PostgreSQL + Auth + RLS)
- AI Integration: Backboard API for the shopping assistant
- State Management: React Context API (Cart & Auth)
The architecture follows a modular structure:
- Components are reusable and separated by feature
- Pages handle routing and layout
- Contexts manage global state
- Database access is abstracted through API functions
Mathematically, the product discount logic can be represented as:
[ \text{Final Price} = P - \left(\frac{d}{100} \cdot P\right) ]
Where:
- (P) = original price
- (d) = discount percentage
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was integrating AI smoothly into the shopping experience without making it feel separate or disconnected from the UI.
Other challenges included:
- Managing authentication flow with username-based login
- Designing a consistent Glassmorphism UI across all components
- Handling responsive layouts for complex product grids
- Ensuring secure data access using Supabase RLS policies
- Optimizing performance for product filtering and search
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a fully functional e-commerce platform from scratch
- Successfully integrated an AI shopping assistant
- Created a modern, visually appealing UI system
- Implemented role-based authentication (user/admin)
- Designed a scalable project structure suitable for production
