Inspiration

I spend about an hour on the news before I start trading. I remember well a time when I entered a trade, the news played out differently than I expected, and my stop loss was hit. I need NewsTide to decide whether to enter a trade at all or not.

I trade spot and futures, mostly coins from the top 100. I can read a chart. What I keep getting wrong is the news: a rate decision, a yield spike, a hack at a wallet maker, a big partnership for the coin itself. It is too much to read before every trade, and how it adds up for one coin often goes differently from what I expected. NewsTide does that reading for me and gives one answer I can see at a glance, the way you glance at RSI.

Hi, I'm Dmitry. I trade and study the crypto market. I'm into crypto and I work in this field. Trading gives me the chance to be financially independent. That comes first for me.

What it does

NewsTide works for a trader as an indicator of where the price of a given coin may move. It collects the news about the project, economic news and economic data releases, and crypto market news. It analyzes all of it, brings it together and shows the direction we expect from the news: up, down or sideways.

You choose a coin, you choose a timeframe, you choose long or short, and you get a direction based on the news. A stamp: for your plan or against it. The editor's conclusions with links to the news.

Judges' demo: https://newstide-paper.vercel.app (archived real editions from 13 and 16 October 2026, replayed without calling the AI, always the same answers)

Live site: https://newstide-live.vercel.app (12 coins, live news, English and Russian)

What's not there yet: it can't pull information from X yet, because data from X (Twitter) is paid per request, so this part would need to be paid. The live site works on 12 coins; the judges' demo replays archived editions for 3 coins.

How I built it

I built NewsTide in Claude Code with the six skills of the Devpost Learn Skill Pack, one after another. Each skill left a document in the repo.

  • 1-start. The skill interviewed me about my background before any code. I came with no idea, and it left the choice to me.
  • 2-scope. The skill ran idea discovery, and the idea came out of my own trading. scope.md keeps one kernel: one short verdict on the news background, as easy to read as RSI. Three coins (ETH, SOL, AAVE), one view for spot and futures, no long essays.
  • 3-prd. prd.md fixed the decisions: the chart timeframe picks the news window (below 4h today's news, from 4h the last two weeks), no percentages, the name NewsTide, the newspaper look.
  • 4-spec. spec.md chose Node.js, Express, RSS feeds and Claude with a fixed answer shape, plus an answer checker. This skill also found that ETH, SOL and AAVE have no open official Telegram channels, so their official blogs and forums took that place.
  • 5-build. checklist.md split the work into five slices. The newspaper front page came first, and I judged the design before anything else was built on it.
  • 6-ship. The skill checked the project end to end and prepared the public repo with the MIT license, the README and the demo video.

After submitting I added the judges' demo and the live site with 12 coins. Both are written into the PRD and the spec.

I made it look like a newspaper so it is a little more pleasant to the eye.

Challenges I ran into

The hard part was bringing all the incoming sources together.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • The judges' demo answers all 24 combinations: 3 coins, Long or Short, 4 timeframes. It replays real editions and calls no AI, so it costs nothing to try.
  • An answer checker reviews every verdict before it reaches the page: no percent signs, a headline of at most six words, the stamp must agree with the hand and the plan, and every step must cite news that was really collected. 8 automated tests cover these rules.
  • The live site has no accounts, and visitors still cannot run up the bill. Each edition is cached for 30 minutes and shared by readers, a daily limit stops new runs, and the key sits in its own Anthropic workspace with a hard limit of $5 a month.

What I learned

I learned to set tasks properly.

What's next

I want other people to use NewsTide too, with their own accounts, so they can get more analyses. NewsTide should fully analyze the news: analyze it, bring it together and give facts, and give the bottom line after the analysis, short, clear and easy to understand. It should also work with ten or more sources and analyze them fast, so the analysis does not take long.

Add geopolitical news, add more coins, keep adding more news platforms to the list, and make the analysis faster, because right now you have to wait a little after you ask where a coin is going.

It's not financial advice.
