Inspiration
Reading every day from the same newspaper isn't a great idea especially if you're young. Youngsters need to form their own kind of thinking and reading from people that think from the same perspective it's not good. Here Newsly comes in handy, getting your news from different perspectives from all of the main world-renowned newspapers.
What it does
Newsly aggregates news thanks to the kind help of newsapi. On Newsly you can search for news by category or by keyword, read them in-app or on the website of the journal and even save your favorite ones for offline access.
How I built it
I built Newsly using expo, newsapi, and sqlite, firstly I divided the task using Trello and I created 3 tables, to adjust some agile like work. Then I went one by one to solve each task focusing on clean code and to move as fast as I could, to develop the best product in the less amount of time.
Challenges I ran into
As I am not a designer and I developed this app alone, I had to arrange a little bit with the graphics, so I had to study other people's designs to produce mine which is better than I had expected.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of Newsly's ease use as it's very easy to search for news and to save them in the archive, so if you don't have time to read an article you can save it for later. I also tried to respect the publishers as I don't show the full article but an insight pointing to the official site for the full article.
What I learned
From this project, I learned how to work with an API that's not mine and how to use its data even when its not that much to create useful interfaces.
What's next for Newsly
Newsly in the future will have support for dark mode and a new section of curated articles with animations and interactable objects to create an even better user interaction.
