Inspiration

The inspiration to do this was an inbox full of unread newsletters. Though we subscribe to interesting topics, we hardly have time to go through a newsletter even if it is genuinely interesting. I felt the need for a system that would to help me read and understand the newsletter better.

What it does

This system takes in newsletter as input and constructs the following

• Summary
• Quiz on concepts taught in the newsletter
• Upon Quiz submission, the system updates knowledge base of user based on his response to questions

The most important part is the knowledge base that gets built and updated as user reads and answers more quizzes. This knowledge base is foundation for future iterations to build personalized summaries and building personalized quizzes based on the user's knowledge.

How we built it

I built it using the following

• Gemini 3.5 flash model to generate contents for both summary and quiz
• Google Agent Development Kit Typescript library to create the four agents required for
  • summarisation
  • concept extraction
  • concept resolution
  • questions generation
• Google Firestore Database to store the concepts, questions, user answers and most importantly the knowledge base
• GCP CloudRun Service to deploy the agent

Understanding the Google ADK ecosystem and deployment of the entire system in GCP

What's next for newsletter-agent

I have a set of items for future iterations

• Personalized summary based on the knowledge base
  • This ensures that the content is tailored for the user
  • The concepts that user already knows does not need to be told again. While the concepts the user has low confidence on, should be reiterated with in-depth explanation
• Pre-requisites section inside Summary that teaches the concepts that user has to be aware, even before starting with newsletter
  • This will lower the friction to enter and start reading the newsletter
• Course Creation based on newsletter content
  • A course with multiple modules that the user can navigate and read
  • Through this the user can be presented much more detailed content than what is mentioned in the newsletter
  • This will definitely help the user level up skills
• Trigger this agent whenever a newsletter arrives at the user inbox
