⚡ My Hackathon Journey: Building a News App with Purpose 🌟 Inspiration The world moves fast—and so does the news. I’ve often found myself frustrated by cluttered news apps, overwhelming feeds, and information overload. I wanted something simple, fast, and clean. That’s when the idea struck: What if news could be delivered like a conversation—personalized, concise, and distraction-free?
This inspiration drove me to build a minimalist, AI-powered news app during the Bolt.new hackathon. I wanted to reimagine how people consume daily updates—less doomscrolling, more clarity.
🛠️ What I Built I created a lightweight, responsive web-based news app using Bolt.new’s platform. Key features include:
📰 Curated news summaries using AI
🎯 Topic-based filters to stay focused
🌙 Dark mode for late-night readers
🚀 Fast-loading UI with zero distractions
💬 A conversational tone to make news more human
It’s designed for people who want to stay informed—without getting overwhelmed.
📚 What I Learned Working with Bolt.new taught me how fast ideas can be prototyped and shared when tools are thoughtfully designed.
I deepened my understanding of frontend UX principles and how minimalism can enhance usability.
I experimented with news APIs and AI text summarization, gaining insight into how AI can enhance—not replace—content curation.
🚧 Challenges I Faced Integrating a reliable news API within the time limit was tricky, especially handling errors and edge cases.
Balancing design simplicity with feature richness took a few iterations. Less really is more.
I had to manage scope creep, resisting the urge to keep adding features and instead focusing on the core user experience.
🚀 The Takeaway This hackathon was more than just a coding sprint—it was a creative reset. I walked in with an idea and walked out with a product prototype I’m proud of. The experience reinforced one of my core beliefs: technology should simplify lives, not complicate them.
