Inspiration
Moving to a new country is exciting, but it can also be one of the most overwhelming experiences in a person's life. Immigrants, international students, and skilled professionals often struggle with confusing immigration procedures, finding affordable housing, understanding healthcare, managing finances, and building a new career—all while adapting to a completely unfamiliar environment. Although information exists online, it is scattered across dozens of websites, difficult to understand, and rarely personalized. We wanted to build an AI-powered companion that brings everything together in one place and proactively guides newcomers through every stage of their journey. That's how NewLife AI was born.
What it does
NewLife AI is an AI-powered relocation companion designed for immigrants and international students. Instead of acting as a simple chatbot, it coordinates multiple AI agents that specialize in different aspects of relocation, including immigration guidance, document understanding, housing recommendations, career support, financial planning, healthcare navigation, and community integration.
Users can:
- Upload immigration documents for AI-powered explanation and verification.
- Receive personalized relocation checklists and timelines.
- Discover housing options based on budget and location.
- Build resumes and prepare for interviews.
- Understand healthcare and insurance systems.
- Receive financial guidance and budgeting assistance.
- Connect with local communities and support networks.
The platform remembers user preferences and provides proactive reminders about deadlines, important documents, and upcoming tasks, making relocation significantly less stressful.
How we built it
We designed NewLife AI using a modular multi-agent architecture.
The frontend provides an intuitive dashboard where users can upload documents, ask questions, and track their relocation progress.
The backend coordinates several specialized AI agents:
- Immigration Agent
- Housing Agent
- Career Agent
- Finance Agent
- Healthcare Agent
- Community Agent To improve reliability, we integrated Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), allowing the system to retrieve trusted information from official resources before generating responses. Document Intelligence combines OCR and vision models to analyze uploaded immigration documents and explain them in simple language. A memory layer enables personalized recommendations by remembering user goals, timelines, visa status, and previous interactions.
Challenges we ran into
Building an AI assistant that users can trust was our biggest challenge. Immigration guidance requires accuracy, so relying only on a language model was not enough. We addressed this by incorporating Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) with trusted information sources. Another challenge was coordinating multiple AI agents while maintaining a seamless user experience. We focused on designing a workflow where each agent contributes specialized knowledge while the user experiences a single, unified assistant. Balancing personalization with privacy was also an important design consideration.

What we learned
This project taught us that impactful AI is not just about generating responses—it is about solving real problems with accuracy, reliability, and empathy. We also learned the importance of combining multiple AI techniques such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation, document understanding, memory, and intelligent task planning to create a genuinely useful assistant. Most importantly, we learned that technology can reduce uncertainty and make life-changing transitions more accessible for everyone.

Our vision is to transform NewLife AI into a complete relocation platform that supports newcomers from pre-departure planning through their first year in a new country. Future features include:
