Inspiration

Our idea is to empower newcomers to discover their perfect home in a new country. We believe that finding a place to call home is not just about the physical space; it's about fostering a sense of belonging. Our app is dedicated to making the journey of finding a new place to rent as seamless and welcoming as possible.

What it does

The app is designed to assist newcomers in finding suitable places to rent when they arrive in a new country. It provides a user-friendly platform that helps individuals discover and explore available rental options

How we built it

We built the app using .NET MAUI, a cross-platform framework, using C# and XAML. This combination allows us to create a single codebase that can be deployed on multiple platforms, such as iOS, Android, MacOS and Windows. We chose this for a specific reason so that there are no compatibility limitations experienced by the users who are the newcomers.

Challenges we ran into

We're all very new to .NET MAUI so the main struggle was adjusting to the new syntax and language. 3 of us are first years and our designer is a second year. We're still getting used to the languages and we are still in the learning phases even after the prototype has been made.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a good-looking, functional app was a big accomplishment as it is. We're really proud of what we have created as beginners, within a span of 36 hours.

What we learned

Probably to use software which we already are familiar with when making a project haha. Making an app from the ground up with a language we've never worked with before was a tough decision, we knew that the decision would be a nightmare for us, but we always kept our users as the first priority. We were firm with our decision on making the app compatible with every OS. The problems a newcomer would face when finding a place to live, especially in this housing crisis is no joke. That's what drove us throughout the weekend to keep working tirelessly to make the app.

What's next for NewHome

What we have right now is just a prototype. The potential for NewHome is endless, we have so many things coming for NewHome we can't wait to show you!
