Newcastle West Golf Club's Get Into Golf initiatives were inspired by the need for more inclusivity and diversity in the sport of golf.

The Get Into Golf Programmes allows for an accessible way for people to try out the sport. This includes a free beginner taster session followed by an 8 week programme costing €75. The 8 weeks includes 4 weeks with our club Pros, and 4 weeks doing on course activities with members.

The programme was devised to facilitate the equipment, premises and instruction for a clear and structured introduction to the game of golf.

To run more programmes targetting more members can be costly, but we hope to run more as we see the demand increase for such programmes. Covid-19 was also a challenging factor in this initiative as we have had to reduce participation numbers according to current government guidance.

We are proud to have held our first Ladies Get Into Golf Programme this year, and we are currently organising a Mens Get Into Golf to commence in July.

From previous programmes, we have learned how the benefits of the sport can be applied to peoples' lives, in particular the social aspect of joining a club. Covid-19 has been a particularly lonely time for some people, and we believe that the Get Into Golf Programmes here can help promote inclusion within our community.

We hope to expand our Get Into Golf initiative to juniors, seniors and people with disabilities in the near future.
