Inspiration

Moving to a new city can be overwhelming. The inspiration for NewBase comes from the struggles we faced when we moved to the U.S. for our Master's program. Finding roommates felt like a gamble and we relied on a shared Excel sheet with 250–300+ entries, scrolling endlessly, hoping to find someone compatible based on a few lines of text.

With ~250,000 international students moving to the U.S. each year for education, plus thousands of domestic students and young professionals relocating, we realized there is no unified platform to help newcomers find compatible roommates, safe housing, and community. We wanted to build the platform we desperately needed.

What it does

NewBase is an AI-powered city onboarding app that helps newcomers move, match, and settle confidently.

Key features:

AI roommate matching with personality & lifestyle preferences Swipe interface (like Bumble) with Like, Pass, and Super-like Notifications & chat once both users match Verified housing listings with a safety score based on crime statistics in the locality from past and AI chatbot to assist with decision making Neighborhood intelligence like commute time & safety indicators Local marketplace to buy/sell student essentials Community events feed to help users socialize and integrate
