Inspiration

We were inspired by our recent ADHC biodiversity project which allowed us to give back to the Newark community that we are now part of. We wanted this web application to have a similar impact and help foster a deeper connection that spreads throughout Newark.

What it does

This web application allows for users to have discussion posts in which people within the community can have a conversation and help each other. The events page helps people post social and volunteer events in order to keep others informed about what is happening in order to increase active engagement from all the members of the community.

How we built it

We used a Flask framework to build the web application. SQL for the database which allows for user data as well as posts and events to be saved. We also used HTML and CSS for the layout of the page in order to style it.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into challenges with collaborating over Github as well as database issues. However, we all worked together in order to overcome each problem and also made our individual contributions while helping each other which allowed everything to come together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we accomplished learning new technologies which allowed us to build this application including how to properly use a database as well as the front-end.

What we learned

We learned how to use Github as well as how to use Flask and SQL. We also learned how to work together as a team and build off of each other's work.

What's next for Newark Connect

We hope that Newark Connect is an application that can be implemented within our community and fulfill its intended purpose through connecting our community and generating more awareness about issues that need to be solved or just fun social events which allows us to get to know each other.
