Inspiration
Our inspiration was the MESA Cargo Glider. We wanted to improve the launching process the best we could.
What it does
It uses a spring to propell the gliders forward without the limitations and difficulties of the rubber band.
How we built it
We designed the device using a spring the slides the hook forward and launching the gliders with little error.
Challenges we ran into
At first we tried to go for a design similar to a door lock, but we found it hard to engineer. So we did a ton of simplifying and ended up at our final result: The Stingray.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have designed this device from the initial concept. We didn't know really how to engineer a device like this, so finishing this project was a huge win inn itself.
What we learned
We learned about how to use springs and how to create mechanisms that would propel gliders and return to their initial position.
What's next for New and Improved Glider Launcher
We hope MESA would take a look at our design and improve the best we can. We hope it'll be of use to this competition in the future.
