NeverResume - The Living CV

Inspiration

The spark for NeverResume came from a simple, frustrating moment: someone asked me for my CV, and I realized I hadn't updated it in years. As I tried to cram my evolving career into a single A4 page, I found myself cutting crucial projects, removing context, and feeling like this static document was doing a terrible job representing who I am professionally today.

That's when it hit me - why are we still using the same CV format Leonardo da Vinci invented in 1482? In an era where our careers are dynamic, multi-faceted, and constantly evolving, why do we present ourselves with a static, backwards-looking document that becomes obsolete the moment we save it?

This opened Pandora's box. What started as "I need a better CV" transformed into a mission to revolutionize how professionals present themselves in the digital age.

While LinkedIn revolutionized professional networking, many professionals feel increasingly disconnected from the platform. The endless feed of corporate announcements, the pressure to constantly engage, and the feeling that your professional identity is reduced to keywords and endorsements has led to what we call 'LinkedIn fatigue.'

NeverResume isn't trying to replace LinkedIn - it's offering professionals sovereignty over their digital presence. Your data, your narrative, your way. No algorithms deciding who sees your achievements. No feed to maintain. Just a clean, professional space that represents you authentically.

Think of it as the difference between renting an apartment and owning a home. LinkedIn is the apartment - convenient but with rules and restrictions. NeverResume is your professional home on the web - you control every aspect, from design to data.

NeverResume is for professionals who want to be found for their work, not their networking activity.

What it does

NeverResume transforms the traditional CV from a static document into a living ecosystem that evolves with your career. Key features include:

  • Dynamic CV Builder: Create beautiful, modern CVs with real-time preview and professional templates
  • Integrated Portfolio: Showcase projects with images, documentation, and achievements
  • Future-Focused: Unique "Projects in Conception" section to show where you're heading, not just where you've been
  • Multi-Platform Optimization: Automatically generate optimized content for LinkedIn and other platforms
  • Smart Export: High-quality PDF, HTML, and print-optimized outputs
  • Cloud-Based: Your data is always accessible and synchronized across devices with Supabase
  • Living Document: Update once, and your CV stays current everywhere

The philosophy is simple: your CV should be a living representation of your professional journey, including your past, present, AND future.

How we built it

The entire application was built using bolt.new, which allowed for incredibly rapid development:

  • Frontend: React 18 + TypeScript + Vite for a modern, type-safe development experience
  • Styling: Tailwind CSS for rapid, responsive design
  • Authentication & Database: Supabase for user management and data persistence
  • Deployment: Netlify for seamless hosting and continuous deployment
  • PDF Generation: Custom implementation with html2canvas + jsPDF for pixel-perfect exports

The development process was iterative and AI-assisted:

  1. Started with core CV editing functionality
  2. Added real-time preview with professional templates
  3. Integrated portfolio features for a complete professional presentation
  4. Implemented social media optimization tools
  5. Added authentication and cloud storage
  6. Polished UX with animations and responsive design

Total development time: 3 days using 30M bolt.new credits. WILD

Challenges we ran into

  1. PDF Export Quality: Getting pixel-perfect PDF exports that match the preview was challenging. We solved this by implementing custom canvas rendering and image optimization techniques. Still it's far from perfect.

  2. Responsive Design Complexity: Creating templates that look great on screen, in PDF, and when printed required careful CSS management and multiple rendering strategies.

  3. Supabase Integration: Setting up real-time synchronization while maintaining data integrity required careful schema design and error handling.

  4. Multi-language Support: Implementing proper i18n for French/English while maintaining SEO and user experience was more complex than anticipated.

  5. Feature Scope Creep: What started as a "simple CV builder" quickly evolved into a comprehensive career management platform. Managing scope while maintaining quality was a constant challenge.
