Inspiration

AI has brought us into an era where anyone can turn an idea into something real.

But human memory is limited, and inspiration can disappear in an instant. Countless ideas that might have changed the world may already have been lost forever.

I wanted to create a way to capture ideas the moment they appear, before they have a chance to escape.

Audio preserves emotion, atmosphere, and context, while AI transcription makes every idea easy to search and review.

I believe the combination of both creates something more valuable than either alone.

This project is my attempt to build a simple tool that helps people preserve today's inspiration for their future selves.

What it does

Never Miss an Idea is an Android app that instantly captures ideas through voice recording and automatically transcribes them into text using AI.

Users can later review both the original audio and the transcription, preserving not only what they thought, but also the emotion and atmosphere of the moment.

How we built it

The app was developed in Kotlin for Android.

I used Codex to help implement Android features, modify code, debug issues, and integrate OpenAI Whisper for speech transcription.

GPT-5.6 helped refine the concept, improve the user experience, organize the project, and prepare the presentation materials.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was integrating AI transcription into the Android app while keeping the experience fast and simple.

Another challenge was balancing functionality with an enjoyable user experience, since this app is intended to be used every day.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that the app captures ideas in just a few seconds while preserving both voice and text.

I'm also proud that I completed a working prototype for Build Week despite having limited Android development experience.

What we learned

This project taught me how powerful AI-assisted development can be.

Working with Codex and GPT-5.6 made it possible to build features that would have taken me much longer to create on my own.

  • Capture ideas by long-pressing the device's volume button.
  • Improve the UI and overall usability.
  • Add operator voices and sound effects to create the feeling of using a secret organization's capture device.
