Inspiration

We're the tiny self funded team behind AI Game Master, which is an AI driven storytelling adventure game with generated characters, enemies, quests, encounters, an inventory  system and much more - already available on iOS and Android and striking an amazing chord with our players.

When we saw the interactive posts coming out we knew we just had to try a Reddit flavour of our game, building on our expertise, and counting on the Reddit community to make it special.

What it does

Never Ending Reddit is a collaborative turn based story, in which every turn is lead by a different Redditor, which advances the plot by a small bit. Players see when others are prompting, and every turn is rewarded with a beautiful generated image.

How we built it

We wrote an interactive post using blocks, and tailored our backend server to this new app. VS Code and copilot were a big help as well as the Discord community and general documentation.

Challenges we ran into

While the platform is amazing and holds huge potential, there were a couple of things missing that came up during development. We collected everything in a list and will submit it in the feedback form as well as through Discord.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're the most proud of our concurrency code, making sure out of all Redditors only one can "grab the microphone" and provide the next turn prompt. Also, using the Realtime platform - the process is dynamically communicated to other players waiting for their turn.

What we learned

That the platform is ready to hit the ground running. We feel it holds tremendous potential with Reddit's vibrant community.

What's next for Never Ending Reddit

We already envision a second version in which all players can submit prompts, and then those are voted on by the community, and the most voted one by the end of the voting window gets to advance the story.
