Inspiration

The idea behind Neutra-Lend came from a personal experience.

I lent ₹1,000 to a friend, expecting it to be returned soon. However, the repayment kept getting delayed from month to month. As an introvert, I found it difficult to repeatedly ask about the money because I did not want a small financial issue to affect a valuable friendship.

That experience made me think:

"What if managing money between friends did not require uncomfortable conversations?"

The problem was not only about getting the money back. It was about maintaining trust and relationships while having complete clarity about financial agreements.

Many people lend money to friends and family based only on trust. But over time, they may forget:

  • How much was borrowed.
  • When it should be returned.
  • What was agreed.
  • How much has already been paid.
  • What amount is still remaining.

I wanted to create a platform where everything related to a personal lending agreement could be recorded transparently in one place, allowing people to manage money while still keeping their relationships strong.

What We Built

This vision became Neutra-Lend — a transparent personal lending management platform.

The core idea is simple:

Money should be clear. Relationships should remain strong.

Instead of relying on memory, messages, or uncomfortable reminders, users can manage lending agreements through a structured platform.

The current hackathon version focuses on building the foundation:

  • User accounts and secure authentication.
  • Lending and borrowing circles.
  • Agreement tracking.
  • Financial dashboards showing money to receive and money to pay.
  • Annual interest calculations.
  • Repayment tracking.
  • Partial repayment support.
  • Agreement extensions with consent.
  • Financial history through timelines.
  • Clear explanations of every financial number.

Users should feel:

"My money is visible, understandable, and under my control."

How We Built It

Neutra-Lend was developed during the OpenAI Build Week hackathon using Flutter and Supabase.

Flutter was used to create the mobile experience, while Supabase provides authentication, database management, security policies, and backend financial logic.

A major focus during development was making financial information reliable and transparent.

Instead of storing random calculated values, the system derives financial information from agreements, interest rates, repayment history, and lifecycle events.

The goal was to create a strong foundation that can grow into a complete financial platform.

Challenges We Faced

The biggest challenge was understanding that real-world lending is not always a simple "borrow and return" process.

In reality:

  • Repayments can happen partially.
  • Due dates can change.
  • Friends may need flexibility.
  • Financial history should remain trustworthy.

Designing a system that handles these situations while keeping the experience simple was the biggest challenge.

Another challenge was building a financial product within a limited hackathon timeline while maintaining a scalable architecture for future improvements.

What We Learned

Building Neutra-Lend taught us that financial technology is not only about numbers.

It is about trust.

We learned the importance of:

  • Designing products around real human problems.
  • Making financial information transparent.
  • Creating secure backend-driven systems.
  • Using AI tools to accelerate development while making thoughtful product decisions.

Future Vision

The hackathon version of Neutra-Lend focuses on solving the core problem of transparent personal lending.

However, building a complete lending platform requires additional considerations such as regulatory compliance, financial partnerships, security verification, and legal requirements.

Future versions will explore:

  • Secure payment integrations.
  • Advanced verification systems.
  • Additional financial services.
  • More comprehensive lending workflows.
  • Compliance requirements including applicable financial regulations.

The long-term vision is to create a trusted platform where people can manage personal lending easily without damaging relationships.

Neutra-Lend is not just about tracking money — it is about protecting trust between people.
