Inspiration

Most DSA platforms hand you the answer the moment you're stuck. That kills the learning. Neuronode was built on a different belief: the struggle is the lesson. If you can't think through a problem, you haven't learned it — you've memorized it.

What it does

Neuronode is a Socratic DSA tutor. Instead of giving you solutions, it asks you questions that guide your thinking. You work through arrays, strings, hash maps, and more — but the AI never solves it for you. It pushes you to arrive at the answer yourself.

How I built it

Built with React and Tailwind on the frontend, Node.js/Express on the backend, and the OpenAI API powering the Socratic questioning engine. The prompting system was designed to detect where a user is stuck and ask the next most useful question rather than explain the solution.

Challenges

Designing prompts that guide without giving away answers was harder than building the app itself. The line between helpful and spoiling the answer required significant iteration on the system prompt architecture.

What I learned

How to engineer AI behavior through prompting rather than code. Also that most people learn DSA wrong — passive watching, not active struggling.

What's next

Expanding coverage beyond arrays and strings. Adding spaced repetition so problems you struggled with resurface intelligently.
