Inspiration
I spent many years in school wondering whats wrong with my brain and why I couldn’t just focus in class like everyone else. Then one day I learnt what is called ADHD. I realized I was struggling with undiagnosed ADHD and adapted my learning to fit better. Now I decided to build something similar for everyone else who might just be neurodivergent.
Most tests put you in one box. But nobody fits perfectly in a box. I don't need advice like "organize your room" - my room is already organized. I need help for mental noise. So we wanted to build something that maps HOW you learn, not just what label you might have.
What it does
NeuroMap is an app that just wants to help you study, by mapping how YOUR brain learns.
- Live counter: Shows how many people have mapped their brain - starts at 0, +1 for every completion. Social proof.
- Phase 1 (12 generic questions): Blunt, visual, style, big bold text. Covers 6 buckets: Focus, Reading/Writing, Numbers, Sensory/Structure, Routine/Regulation, and Neurotypical baseline.
- Save gate: To see result you enter Name + Gmail. Not a paywall - it's to save your map. Clear disclaimer: Not a medical diagnosis.
- Phase 2 (AI Deep Dive): This is the core. AI takes your contradictions from Phase 1 and generates 10 extra super-specific questions.
- Result: No paragraphs. Just a Radar chart (6 axes), one blunt 8-word headline like "Physically tidy. Mentally noisy." and 3 icon + 5-word study hacks. Visual > wordy.
How we built it
- Frontend: Lovable + React + Tailwind. Built for blunt, less-wordy UI. Large fonts, progress bar (X/25), 1-5 tappable buttons.
- Backend: Supabase for live counter and saving Name/Gmail + quiz answers.
- AI Brain: Gemini API. We send Phase 1 scores + contradictions, prompt it to generate Phase 2 questions and to write the final point-blank headline + 3 study rules. We forced prompt to be under 8 words per rule.
- Design: Mobile-first, minimal, dark/light friendly.
Challenges we ran into
- The 300-question family tree idea. We wanted to cover every netrodivergent combo manually but it's impossible. Pivoted to AI-generating questions on the fly.
- Keeping results blunt. AI loves writing essays. We had to jailbreak it to be point-blank: "No paragraphs. 5 words max."
- The gmail gate felt scammy. We reframed it from "Enter email to see result" to "Save & See My Map" with clear privacy text.
- Making it feel like help, not diagnosis. We added Neurotypical as a 6th bucket and a disclaimer on every page.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a quiz that finally captures contradictions like "organized room but chaotic mind" - something no fixed test does.
- The AI Phase 2 actually works - it asks questions that feel like it knows you.
- Live counter + save system working end-to-end in under 24h.
- My bestie Ara will be tester #1. She was the inspiration.
What we learned
- Most people don't fit into a clear mental label. They fit a pattern. And patterns have contradictions.
- Personalization isn't about 300 pre-written questions. It's about 12 smart ones + AI that listens to what's missing.
What's next for NeuroMap
- Body-double study mode: match with someone who learns like you.
- Export your map as a shirt tagline / lock screen: "Learn How You Learn"
- Teacher mode: teacher sees your brain and teaches better.
- More languages.
