Inspiration

NMTSA is a leader in clinical applications of music therapy, yet their previous website was outdated and inefficient. The website needed to clearly showcase their services, provide educational resources, and promote donations—all while being easy to maintain by non-technical staff. Inspired by their mission to help individuals with disabilities through the power of music, we saw an opportunity to modernize their online presence with a custom website that’s more accessible, organized, and scalable.

What it does

We created a new website for NMTSA that streamlines content, offers a modern UI, and includes a password-protected educational section. The website now:

  • Allows NMTSA to manage content easily through the Contentful CMS.
  • Features a clear, organized menu with links to services and opportunities.
  • Includes a password-protected section for sharing training videos and research.
  • Provides a responsive, mobile-friendly design with semantic search functionality.
  • Minimizes repetitive information and offers concise, targeted content to users.

How we built it

The website was built using:

  • Next.js for the frontend, ensuring a fast, modern UI with seamless user experience.
  • Contentful CMS for non-technical staff to easily add, edit, and delete content like blogs or videos.
  • Firebase Authentication for managing access to the password-protected educational section.
  • Framer Motion for smooth animations and interactions, making the website visually engaging.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was finding an effective way to manage educational content securely and ensure non-technical staff could update the website without needing to rely on developers. By using Contentful as a CMS, we empowered the team to manage their own content while keeping sensitive materials safe behind a password-protected section.

Another challenge was restructuring the scattered and repetitive information from the old website into a more concise, streamlined format.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a modern website that not only looks better but is much easier for NMTSA’s team to maintain. The password-protected section for educational content was a significant improvement, allowing them to securely share resources with clients. We also significantly improved the website’s user experience by cutting down on redundant information and providing a clean, intuitive interface.

What we learned

We learned a lot about integrating modern CMS solutions with a secure, dynamic website structure. Balancing security and ease of use for non-technical users was a key learning experience, and we also deepened our skills with modern frontend tools like Next.js and Framer Motion.

What's next for Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona's website

Moving forward, NMTSA can expand the website by adding more pages for services, a donation portal, and further customization through Contentful. We also plan to refine the password-protected educational section with more features like user-specific content and analytics to track engagement with their resources.
