Inspiration
Many individuals living with Asperger’s Syndrome face challenges with social interactions, sensory overload, and managing daily routines. We wanted to create a tool that empowers neurodiverse users to navigate their day with confidence, reduce stress, and feel supported in social and personal contexts. NeuroEase is inspired by the idea that technology can bridge gaps, simplify complex tasks, and enhance independence for neurodiverse communities.
What it does
NeuroEase is a personalized companion app for neurodiverse users. It helps:
Manage routines with customizable reminders and task suggestions. Support social interactions by offering conversation prompts and situational guidance. Reduce sensory overload through calming techniques, visual aids, and noise/sound adjustments. Track progress and provide gentle feedback to help users feel confident in daily life. How we built it
We built NeuroEase using:
Frontend: React.js for an interactive, accessible interface. Backend: Node.js + Express for handling user preferences and data securely. Database: MongoDB for storing routines, social prompts, and progress logs. AI Integration: OpenAI API to generate context-aware conversation prompts and calming suggestions. Accessibility: Designed with high-contrast themes, simple navigation, and adjustable audio/visual cues. Challenges we ran into Designing a UI that is both engaging and non-overstimulating for neurodiverse users. Ensuring that AI-generated prompts are accurate, sensitive, and supportive. Balancing customization with simplicity, so users can tailor their experience without feeling overwhelmed. Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a fully interactive prototype with task reminders, social prompts, and sensory support. Created AI-driven suggestions that adapt to user behavior and preferences. Designed an accessible interface validated by feedback from neurodiverse users. What we learned The importance of user-centered design when creating tools for neurodiverse communities. How AI can enhance personalized support, but must be guided carefully to avoid stress or misinformation. Collaboration and feedback from actual users significantly improved usability and effectiveness. What's next for NeuroEase Mobile deployment to make the app available on iOS and Android. Expanded AI features for emotional regulation and social scenario simulations. Integration with smart devices for sensory management (lighting, sound, environment). Community features to allow safe peer support and sharing of tips among neurodiverse users.
