Inspiration
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A few years ago, whenever someone asked me about my future, it felt like the same conversation on repeat:
Take PCM, it has more scope. Choose the branch with the highest package. Which subjects are you scoring well in?
Very few people ever asked: "How do you think?"
If choosing a career felt this confusing for me, what must it feel like for someone whose mind works differently from the majority?
For many neurodivergent students, traditional career advice simply doesn't fit their reality. A student with ADHD may thrive in fast-paced, creative environments. A student with Autism may possess incredible focus and pattern recognition. A student with Dyslexia may excel at big-picture thinking and problem-solving.
Yet they are often defined by their challenges rather than their strengths. They hear words like disorder, disability,limitation.......long long before they hear talent and potential.
Millions of neurodivergent students are trying to fit into career paths that were never designed with minds like theirs in mind. Most career platforms focus on grades and subjects, while ignoring the elephant in the room—interests, capabilities, and uniqueness.
The world has spent decades trying to help neurodivergent students adapt to existing systems. We wanted to build something that does the opposite:
A system that adapts to them
That's why we built "NeuroCareer"—to help neurodivergent students discover careers that don't just accept who they are, but celebrate it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What it does
NeuroCareer is an AI-powered career coach designed specifically for neurodivergent students.
Students simply select their neurodivergence and interests, and our platform uses AI to generate personalized career recommendations tailored to how they think and learn.
For each recommended career, NeuroCareer provides:
- 🎯 A personalized explanation of why the career matches their unique strengths.
- A match percentage and realistic salary expectations.
- Companies that actively hire for these roles.
- Workplace accommodations and support that can help them thrive.
Instead of asking neurodivergent students to fit into existing career paths, NeuroCareer helps them discover careers where their differences become their greatest strengths.
How we built itu
We built NeuroCareer as a full-stack AI application focused on accessibility and personalization.
Frontend: We used React.js to create a responsive and intuitive user interface where students can easily input their neurodivergence and interests.
Backend: We built a Node.js and Express.js server to handle API requests, manage the recommendation workflow, and connect the frontend with our AI engine.
AI Engine: Using the Groq API and carefully engineered prompts, we generate personalized career recommendations that focus on strengths rather than limitations.
Career Intelligence: The AI provides not only suitable careers but also salary expectations, inclusive employers, and workplace accommodations tailored to each recommendation.
Deployment: We deployed the frontend on Vercel and the backend on Render, overcoming real-world challenges like API integration, environment variables, and cross-origin communication.
The result is a fast, scalable platform that helps neurodivergent students discover careers where they can truly thrive. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Challenges we ran into
Building NeuroCareer was both technically and socially challenging.
Prompt engineering: Creating AI prompts that generated meaningful, realistic, and encouraging career suggestions required multiple iterations and testing.
Finding actionable insights: We wanted to go beyond simply recommending jobs and provide salary expectations, inclusive employers, and workplace accommodations that could genuinely help students.
Full-stack deployment: Deploying the application across Vercel and Render introduced real-world engineering challenges, including environment variables, API integration, CORS issues, and frontend-backend communication.
Balancing optimism with realism: We wanted to celebrate neurodiversity without overpromising, ensuring that our recommendations remained practical, achievable, and genuinely useful.

Accomplishments that we're proud of
Turned neurodivergence from a limitation into a strength-based approach. Successfully deployed a full-stack application using React, Node.js, and AI. Created a product with** real social impact.** --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What we learned
AI can be used to empower and personalize education. Building inclusive products requires empathy as much as technology. Real-world development is as much about debugging and deployment as it is about coding. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's next for NeuroCareer
Personalized learning and skill roadmaps. AI interview preparation and mentorship matching. Internship and scholarship recommendations. Partnerships with inclusive employers and organizations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
