The NHS 10-Year Health Plan is built on five words: "from sickness to prevention." Yet in 2023, more than 1 in 8 deaths in England were considered preventable. Mental health is where this gap hurts most; people don't get help when they start struggling, they get it months later, after the burnout or the spiral.

We kept asking why the delay? The answer is that mental-health care runs almost entirely on self-report: you have to notice your own decline and then have the energy to ask for help. But depression, anxiety, and burnout creep in quietly through everyday behaviour; doomscrolling, fragmented focus, late-night sedentary sessions. By the time someone fills in a wellbeing survey, the deterioration has already happened.

Then we found the research on digital phenotyping: keystroke dynamics, mouse movement, and screen patterns are objective, passive biomarkers of cognitive and mental health. The signal was already there but nobody was listening to it early enough. That was our spark.
