Inspiration
This game is inspired by city/civilization manager type games like the Civilization series (namely Civ 5) and FrostPunk.
How we built it
We built this game using Unity (C# based game-engine) while also utilizing some free 3D assets. Everything else we made completely by ourselves.
Challenges we ran into
Working collaboratively in such a short time frame on a Unity project is something neither of us have a great deal of experience with, and with it came a whole variety of challenges. We ended up losing lots of progress, had tons of unnecessary frustrations, and even had some critical communication issues that set us backwards.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We set up a very smooth 2D camera controller, and made a solid framework for a full game to be built on top of. Even though we weren't able to put in as much content as we would have liked to, should we have had another half day or so, this game would've been a masterpiece. (OK, maybe not a masterpiece, but it would've had A LOT of content since we could leverage scriptable objects)
What we learned
Don't get caught up on the small details. Focus on the core gameplay mechanics, and once those are done you can worry about everything else.
