Inspiration
LinkedIn has become much to similar to other social media services. It has slowly become much less focused on making and organizing connections with people and much more focused posts and little mini games.
What it does
Users are able to find other people using the service, connect with them, and schedule meetings in a calendar. Unlike LinkedIn, Networks does not contain fluff and focuses solely on making connections and maintaining those connections. The calendar function allows users to schedule meetings with connections to and actually get to get to know them. Users receive notifications upon scheduling of, cancellation of, and or changing of meetings.
How we built it
Java Spring Boot backend, Angular TypeScript frontend, psql database: Java Spring Boot and Angular TypeScript is versatile and built for web apps like this one. PSQL is a well known framework for data storage and and versatile and scalable.
Challenges we ran into
Deployment was a challenge that we were able to solve, our team had little experience deploying to the cloud, however throughout the course of the hackathon, we researched and orchestrated deployment so that the site is accessible online.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Quickly setting up cloud infrastructure, and rapid development and implementation of important features.
What we learned
How to set up a cloud database accessible from multiple sources at a time, how to host a website by selecting a cloud hosting platform and domain
What's next for NetWorks
Adding more information to each profile, adding a message with connection requests, a plot viewing your connections and who they are connected to whether it is mutual connections or not.
