About the Project
The Spark
It started with a video call between Shanghai and San Francisco. My friend was complaining about his ¥800/hour personal trainer who spent more time selling supplements than teaching proper form. Meanwhile, I was surrounded by broke college friends who could deadlift 2.5x their body weight but couldn't afford next semester's textbooks.
The math was obvious. The opportunity was massive.
The Observations
In China: The fitness market is exploding ($28.4B and growing), but it lacks quality trainers. Chinese professionals have money, education, and English skills. They want more than just a workout; they want motivation, accountability, and genuine connections.
In the US: Millions of college students live and breathe fitness. They have the knowledge, the passion, and desperately need flexible income. Their expertise is undermonetized, and their schedules perfectly align with Chinese evening workout times.
The Insight
We realized this wasn't just about matching trainers with clients. People who invest in fitness are investing in themselves - they're educated, social, and yes, they care about how they look. They're open to connections that go beyond counting reps.
So we built Networkout - where fitness meets networking meets cultural exchange. A platform where:
- Chinese professionals find US trainers who understand both squats and cultural nuances
- Workouts become English practice sessions
- US students pay bills while Chinese professionals break personal records
