What it does##Inspiration
Millions of young people, especially students and non-graduates, struggle to find accessible, dignified work. Many have skills but no formal credentials. We wanted to build a solution that connects them to local, manual, and service-based job opportunities—like housekeeping, gardening, or waiting tables—quickly and easily, helping them earn money and improve their lives.
What it does
Networker is a social job-matching platform that connects students and non-graduates with manual jobs in their area. Job seekers can create simple profiles, showcase their availability and skills, and apply to nearby gigs. Employers can post jobs, view worker profiles, and hire instantly. It's mobile-first, geo-localized, and community-driven.
How we built it
We used React Native for the mobile app to ensure cross-platform compatibility. Supabase powers our backend (authentication, database, and storage), enabling quick development and real-time data sync. We designed a lightweight, user-friendly interface to ensure accessibility, even for users with basic smartphones or low digital literacy.
Challenges we ran into
Building trust between workers and employers with minimal onboarding friction.
Ensuring job listings are relevant and local through geolocation.
Balancing simplicity with enough detail for matching the right workers to the right tasks.
Adapting UI/UX for low-end devices and varying internet conditions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of Creating a working prototype that matches users with nearby jobs.
Building an onboarding flow that requires no formal CV or academic background.
Developing a simple but effective trust system using ratings and job completion history.
Designing for real-world constraints in underserved regions.
What we learned
Simplicity is powerful: users want to connect fast without bureaucracy.
Real-time updates and geolocation significantly improve job matching.
Financial struggles are urgent, and small, fast-paying jobs make a big difference.
Trust and transparency are crucial for both workers and employers.
What's next for Networker
Integrate a digital wallet to enable in-app payments and financial tracking.
Add ID verification and enhanced trust tools (e.g., reviews, job completion badges).
Launch in pilot cities to gather feedback and iterate.
Partner with local businesses and institutions to create a job ecosystem for informal workers.
Explore AI-powered matching to improve job recommendations and employer satisfaction.
