Inspiration
We're Shams and Doaa, Network and Cyber Security students at WE School. We noticed that small and medium companies often spend up to a year and a huge budget just to set up their network infrastructure — and many still lose money due to poor planning and traditional design mistakes. We wanted to build a solution that fixes this from the root: design, test virtually, then deploy safely to real hardware.
What it does
Netrix is an AI-driven, on-premise system that takes network infrastructure from design to real deployment safely, through 5 core steps:
- AI-Assisted Design — a specialized team designs the network tailored to the company's needs, with AI support.
- Automated Configuration — configs generated and applied automatically via AI Automation.
- Digital Twin — a virtual replica linked directly to real hardware, so nothing untested touches production.
- Testing Phase — full validation before going live.
- Continuous Monitoring — a live dashboard that detects real-world failures, resolves them on the virtual model first, then safely applies the fix.
How we built it
We built a working proof of concept using GNS3 to simulate a network topology, connected to a Linux (Ubuntu) environment. A virtual router receives its configuration first and enters a testing phase — verifying connectivity and that the config behaves correctly. Once validated, the same configuration is automatically applied to a real physical router, confirming that the "test virtual, then deploy real" workflow at the core of Netrix actually works end-to-end.
Challenges we ran into
Given the limited time of the hackathon, building this properly requires a dedicated server to run and test the full system reliably — something we're working on securing for the next stage.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully proved our core concept works: a configuration tested and validated in a virtual environment was automatically applied to a real physical router — the exact workflow Netrix is built around. This experiment helped us win 3rd place at City Hackathon Damanhour.
What we learned
We learned how to bridge virtual network simulation (GNS3) with real hardware deployment on Linux, and validated that our core "test-then-deploy" workflow is technically achievable, not just a concept on paper.
What's next for Netrix
Expanding the proof of concept into a full AI-driven on-premise system — adding automated multi-vendor config generation, a broader digital twin covering complex topologies, and a live monitoring dashboard — then piloting with our first SME customer.
