Recent changes in telehealth in response to COVID-19.
COVID-19 and the subsequent stay-at-home period has been disastrous for physical therapists and their patients, as clinics were forced to shut down without an online alternative. Regulations on reimbursement of telehealth for PT have been changing every day, while the need for PT from COVID-19 survivors (rehabilitation post-ICU) increases in demand as we speak.
What it does
Our platform educates physical therapists and patients about the new possibilities of telehealth in physical therapy. COVID-19 has facilitated temporary deregulation for telemedicine and increased reimbursement processes that most therapists and patients are unaware of. They can use these new modalities to continue business during the stay at home time. Once informed we use the platform to connect physical therapists with new patients.
How we built it
We used squarespace to create an educational resource and platform to connect physical therapists with patients. We use email to establish these relationships. We are guiding our members to use existing technology rather than reinventing the wheel.
Challenges we ran into
Time constraint - had to prioritize the most important areas for our narrow window of development time.
Time zones - working on a global team for the first time had its challenges. Sometimes it was difficult to find a time for us all to meet over Zoom.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Great team collaboration and a shared passion for helping the physical therapy community. We also managed to interview numerous physical therapists during the weekend so that we could truly build something that serves their needs.
What we learned
The telehealth landscape is changing rapidly in response to COVID-19. However, within the crisis there is a huge opportunity to change the landscape of PT forever using teleconferencing tools.
What's next for Netic Health
Bring more PTs on our platform and create the largest marketplace of physical therapists available via telehealth. Establish a business model to collect revenue and aim for profitability. Explore business model options such as a booking fee on each visit or a subscription fee to be listed on the Netic Health marketplace.
