NetCyberContract (LifeAfterCode) — User Story

From Legacy Code to Trusted Business Contracts

As a DevOps engineer responsible for modernising legacy infrastructure, I want to discover and understand the business logic embedded in existing repositories, so that I can migrate systems, preserve operational knowledge, and reduce the risk of losing critical information.

The Problem

Our organisation has years of operational knowledge scattered across legacy repositories, configuration files, infrastructure definitions and engineering procedures.

When engineers need to modernise these systems, they often have to manually investigate code, identify dependencies, interpret undocumented business rules and recreate the information in new platforms.

This process is slow, error-prone and difficult to audit.

The NetCyberContract Solution

LifeAfterCode connects to an authorised GitLab repository and discovers candidate business contracts directly from source code.

It identifies relevant evidence, groups related technical concepts, and proposes structured mappings that engineers can review before publication.

The workflow supports:

  1. Discover: Connect to GitLab and inspect legacy source files without executing repository code.
  2. Interpret: Identify candidate business contracts, technical dependencies and source evidence.
  3. Review: Reconcile discovered fields, remove duplicate concepts and approve canonical mappings.
  4. Prepare for Salesforce: Generate structured Salesforce metadata for validation and controlled deployment.
  5. Reuse operational knowledge: Support downstream incident investigation and procedure lookup through the NetContract/Alexa workspace.

Example Scenario — Network Incident Investigation

A network engineer is investigating a BFD Session Down alarm.

Rather than searching manually through legacy scripts and operational documentation, the engineer uses NetCyberContract to discover relevant configuration, diagnostic commands and procedural evidence.

The engineer reviews the discovered information and prepares an approved contract describing the affected service, alarm type, node and diagnostic procedure.

That structured knowledge can then support an Alexa-assisted incident investigation workflow, where engineers retrieve relevant procedures and review recommended next steps.

Human approval remains required before publishing contracts or taking remediation actions.

Business Value

NetCyberContract helps organisations:

  • Reduce manual legacy-code analysis.
  • Preserve engineering knowledge during modernisation.
  • Accelerate Salesforce metadata preparation.
  • Improve traceability from source code to reviewed business definitions.
  • Create reusable, evidence-backed operational knowledge.
  • Support safer, human-controlled incident investigation.

Current Demonstration

The AWS-hosted application demonstrates GitLab MCP discovery, evidence-backed repository analysis and contract review.

Salesforce deployment and the end-to-end Alexa consumption of newly discovered contracts remain integration steps requiring further validation.

NetCyberContract doesn't simply migrate code. It helps organisations understand, validate and reuse the knowledge their legacy systems contain.
