Covid-19 and the Digital Divide

The pandemic highlighted the importance of the internet in the modern world. Many services such as doctors and schools switched to virtual internet based system to serve their communities. As such, reliable access to internet is critical for the success and well-being of a community. In rural communities inside Canada in the United States, internet access is limited by many factors including infrastructure, high prices and most importantly lack of access to internet devices such as computers, laptops, phones and tablets.

A solution

Many Canadians have old, but functional, devices that they keep in their homes as they purchase new products. Instead of collecting dust, these products can be donated to low-income and rural communities to help grant them access to internet services. I designed a website using figma as an easy way for Canadians to donate their old technology and put it to good use.
