NestWise

Inspiration

The idea for NestWise came from a conversation with a good friend in her 30s. After working for over ten years, she had managed to save some money, but she wasn’t sure how much she would really need for retirement — or even where to begin planning.

I realized she wasn’t alone. Many people like her, especially those new to personal finance, find retirement planning confusing and intimidating. There’s no shortage of information online, yet most tools available are either too technical, overly advanced, or assume users already have financial knowledge.

I wanted to change that. NestWise was created to make retirement planning simple, approachable, and empowering — a friendly first step into financial independence.

What it does

NestWise helps beginners estimate how much they might need for retirement through a few straightforward steps. The app provides a quick, easy-to-understand estimation — not a perfect financial model, but a meaningful starting point for learning and reflection.

One special feature is the AI Retirement Coach, which guides users through common questions about retirement goals, budgeting, and investment basics. It acts as a supportive companion that makes complex concepts clear and actionable.

How we built it

As someone who isn’t a mobile app designer or software engineer, building NestWise seemed challenging at first. But thanks to AI tools, I was able to bring the concept to life — from designing the user interface to generating app logic and components.

This was also my first experience with vibe coding, which made it easier to prototype ideas visually and interactively without heavy coding knowledge. While the result is still an early-stage prototype, I’m proud of how it came together.

• Learning to navigate multiple AI tools and integrate them effectively.
• Translating a complex topic (retirement planning) into something simple enough for beginners.
• Balancing accuracy and accessibility — ensuring the app’s calculations are realistic yet not overwhelming.

What we learned

This project taught me that AI can unlock creativity, even for non-technical founders. It showed me how powerful it can be to prototype and test ideas quickly without needing full technical expertise.

Most importantly, I learned that making financial literacy approachable can have a real impact — helping people take control of their futures with clarity and confidence.

What's next for NestWise

• Improve the AI Retirement Coach to give more personalized insights.
• Add simple investment education modules for beginners.
• Enhance the user interface design and mobile responsiveness.
• Conduct user testing to refine the experience based on real feedback.

The long-term goal is to turn NestWise into a trusted platform where everyone, regardless of financial background, can start planning their future with wisdom — just like our owl symbol represents.
