Inspiration

Pregnancy can significantly increase women’s risk of heart disease. We created a platform, NestTogether, to raise awareness and provide accessible resources for women, partners, and supporters who are looking for guidance. NestTogether makes it easy for expectant mothers to receive the support they need and for loved ones to stay involved and informed throughout pregnancy.

About NestTogether

NestTogether is a platform that helps expectant mothers and their loved ones navigate their pregnancy journey. Both expectant mothers and their support networks can report symptoms, access curated resources, and follow a hospital-ready checklist. The symptoms survey provides users with an estimate of their heart disease risk based on their responses and recommended next steps. The resources tab connects users to trustworthy sources of information for every stage of pregnancy. The checklist provides a reminder of important items to bring to the hospital so they are prepared when the time comes.

How We Built It

We utilized Vite to build the front end with the React library. We visualized our interface with UI design using Figma and implemented it with HTML and CSS.

Challenges We Faced

Learning React on the spot was the most difficult challenge, as none of us had programmed in JSX before. For this project, we learned components, events & handling, and states. Since the format was different from standard JS implementation for HTML, it required us to adapt under time constraints. We also struggled with version control since we worked on the main branch instead of creating individual branches and had to fix merge conflicts.

What We Learned

This project deepened our understanding of pregnancy and the associated heart disease risks. We also gained hands-on experience learning how to use new tools like React and Figma. We learned how to communicate better as a team to make sure everyone was on the same page throughout the process and navigate problems together.

What's Next for NestTogether

We would like to implement accounts so expectant mothers and the people supporting them can link their accounts for shared features and history. Symptoms can be tracked periodically through the stages of pregnancy, where both users can report them and view the history. They can also modify the checklist to create a personalized list together.
