Inspiration

As a team of immigrants and Women of Color, this project holds immense significance for us. We intimately comprehend the challenges and triumphs of embarking on a new chapter, drawing from our diverse backgrounds and experiences. One of our dedicated teammates hails from Texas, and through her, we gained profound insights into the complexities of the border crisis affecting the region. Motivated by the desire to make a positive impact, NestHub was born. Our shared commitment to creating a supportive platform stems from a deep understanding of the unique needs faced by immigrants in Texas and beyond. NestHub is not just a project; it's a testament to our collective dedication to fostering resilience, empowerment, and a sense of home for all those venturing into new beginnings.

What it does

Our Housing feature facilitates connections for newcomers with essential resources, streamlining the process of finding a home in Texas. Expanding on this foundation, the 'Job Network' feature acts as a career guide, directing newcomers toward fulfilling job opportunities and facilitating their integration into a new professional milieu. Our Food resource section guarantees that no newcomers experience hunger on their journey, providing access to food pantries, local grocery stores, and more. These features all utilize online parsing tools to gather up-to-date information, ensuring the accuracy and relevance of the resources provided. Furthermore, our contact page allows users to personalize their experience and propose resources to help upkeep this database and promote a sense of community. Recognizing the significance of community-building in starting anew, NestHub incorporates a Facebook group feature that connects newcomers.

How we built it

NestHub was built collaboratively using React for the frontend, ensuring a dynamic and user-friendly interface. Figma and Illustrator were integral in shaping our visual identity, facilitating efficient design collaboration and precision graphics creation. The development process involved comprehensive planning, iterative coding, and continuous user feedback integration. Our commitment to adaptability and continuous learning has resulted in a powerful platform, combining robust technology with a visually compelling design for a seamless and engaging user experience.
