Inspiration
We were inspired by the lack of tools that combine family budgeting, teen financial education, and proactive financial planning in one space.
What it does
Nestegg is a family-oriented budgeting app created to help parents manage household finances while giving teenagers a practical way to learn how to budget, set financial goals, and work toward them.
How we built it
As we brainstormed the problem, we realized that most budgeting apps focus on tracking money after it has already been spent, so we built Nestegg to also let users simulate future financial situations, such as a mortgage, car payment, or Buy Now, Pay Later purchase, and see how those commitments would affect their budget and savings goals.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was bringing all these elements together into one cohesive and user-friendly product, especially when thinking about secure bank syncing and keeping financial information realistic and up to date.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that Nestegg meets about 95% of our initial goals and became a strong, well-rounded solution that feels both practical and meaningful.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how important teamwork, clear planning, and communication are in avoiding both technical and social conflicts.
What's next for Nestegg
Moving forward, we want to grow our user base, strengthen our social media presence, improve personalization and bank integration, and continue developing Nestegg into a more complete platform for family budgeting and financial confidence.
