Nerve: AI Financial Signal Intelligence for D2C Brands

Inspiration

Many growing D2C businesses use multiple tools such as Shopify, Stripe, QuickBooks, and advertising platforms to run their operations. While these tools provide valuable data, the information remains scattered across different dashboards.

Founders often spend hours trying to understand whether they are truly profitable, why sales are changing, or whether a cash flow problem is approaching. In many cases, businesses appear successful on the surface but are actually losing money due to hidden costs, delayed liabilities, or poor-performing products.

We built Nerve to solve this problem. Instead of forcing founders to search for issues inside dashboards, Nerve continuously monitors business data and proactively delivers important financial insights before they become costly problems.

What Nerve Does

Nerve is an autonomous financial intelligence platform that connects data from multiple business systems and transforms it into actionable decisions.

The platform helps founders:

  • Detect hidden profit leaks
  • Identify unprofitable products and campaigns
  • Monitor cash flow health
  • Track upcoming liabilities
  • Reduce manual financial reconciliation
  • Receive real-time alerts and recommendations

Rather than showing more charts, Nerve focuses on explaining what is happening, why it matters, and what action should be taken next.

How We Built It

Data Collection Layer

We used Fivetran to continuously synchronize data from multiple business systems including:

  • Shopify
  • Stripe
  • QuickBooks
  • Advertising platforms

This data is automatically consolidated into BigQuery, creating a single source of truth for financial analysis.

Agent Layer

Nerve uses a multi-agent architecture built on Google Cloud Agent Builder.

Agent 1: Signal Detective

This agent verifies data freshness, performs cross-system analysis, and runs financial calculations to identify anomalies such as:

  • Negative margin products
  • Revenue discrepancies
  • Cash flow risks
  • High return-rate products

Agent 2: Research Agent

When significant issues are detected, this agent gathers external market context and benchmark information to help explain the root cause of the problem.

Agent 3: Alert Orchestrator

This agent prioritizes findings based on severity and converts technical analysis into clear, actionable recommendations delivered through the dashboard and Slack.

AI Reasoning Layer

Gemini powers the reasoning engine that interprets financial signals, identifies patterns across multiple data sources, and generates easy-to-understand business insights.

User Interface

We built a Next.js dashboard where users can:

  • View financial health indicators
  • Track detected anomalies
  • Explore recommendations
  • Run business simulations

Slack notifications ensure that critical alerts reach founders immediately.

Key Features

Silent Killer Score

A predictive business health score that evaluates cash runway, upcoming obligations, and financial stability to help founders understand future risk.

Phantom Liability Tracking

Tracks expenses that have been incurred but not yet billed, helping founders avoid unexpected financial surprises.

What-If Simulator

Allows users to test decisions before making them, such as reallocating advertising budgets or pausing campaigns.

Actionable Alerts

Every alert includes clear recommendations so founders can move from insight to action quickly.

Challenges We Faced

Data Reconciliation

One of the biggest challenges was combining data from different platforms that use different structures, naming conventions, and reporting timelines.

Cross-System Analysis

Generating accurate business insights required connecting information across revenue, advertising, payments, and accounting systems while maintaining consistency.

Prioritizing Alerts

Not every anomaly is equally important. We had to design a system that identifies which issues require immediate attention and which can wait.

Making Insights Understandable

Financial analysis can become complex very quickly. A major challenge was converting technical calculations into simple recommendations that founders could act on immediately.

What We Learned

Building Nerve taught us that business owners do not need more dashboards—they need clearer decisions.

The most valuable insights often come from connecting information across multiple systems rather than analyzing a single metric in isolation.

We also learned the importance of combining reliable data infrastructure with AI reasoning to create solutions that are both intelligent and trustworthy.

Future Vision

Our goal is to evolve Nerve from an insight platform into an autonomous financial copilot capable of not only identifying problems but also helping businesses take corrective actions with appropriate human approval and safeguards.

We believe the future of business intelligence is proactive, predictive, and action-oriented rather than reactive reporting.
