Inspiration
From our own experiences we realized that student are often required to buy items such as books and other equipment for their studies at university. These items are often used only for limited amount of time after which students either put them somewhere and forget about them or try to sell them. That is why we decided to create a place for students to not only easily sell or buy items, but also put request like finding a tutor or accepting such a request.
What it does
NERD is a website that after registering allows student to browse offers of other students and also create one of their own. If an user is interested in offer, they can contact author trough in-build chat to discuss details about the offer. Users are also able to view their timetable in calendar to make sure that two appointments are not colliding. Users can also rate each other based on their deals, for example student trying to find a tutor to teach him/her math can rate such a person to let others know of their experience.
How we built it
We split our project into several phases. After we had an idea of what we are trying to create we started with design. During this phase we also worked on backend using Firebase database, which stores information about users and their posted offers. Next we created frontend based on React, using Next.js and Tailwindcss styles.
Challenges we ran into
For few of us it was first experience working at such a tight schedule and also in larger group. We had to split work between our members and build on top of each others work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to create working website at which it is possible to create an account, publish offer/request and also browse the ones created by others.
What we learned
We had to learn cooperation and task management in order to finish at time. We also gained experiences when it comes to brainstorming an idea a reviewing others work.
What's next for NERD
The next step would be to increase security measures around the user information and try out our project on small scale.
