Inspiration
I'm Tushar the co-founder of NeoWave. Hackathons started to intrigue me not more than a few months ago, I had some basic knowledge of Python, Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and React.js and liked to make small projects to have a tighter grip on my programming prowess. I got to know about MakeUC hackathon from a site and at first I thought I haven't attended any hackathon before and it would probably be best if I wait for a year and do a hackathon in my second year of college. But a simple thought came to my mind "Even in my second year I would still start with my first hackathon so why not now." So I contacted my fellow mate Anwesh who is also the co-founder of NeoWave who at first also thought that without any coding knowledge he would probably not be fit for the hackathon. But after some serious debate and discussion he came around.
What it does
Anwesh came up with the idea of NeoWave, a web application that would bring out the essence of the Retro track provided by MakeUC and asked me if I could handle the programming part of the project. Our main aim behind this application was to disseminate the knowledge about some of the various games and movies created in the Science Fiction genre in the 20th century and enlighten the current generation about the gaming era before the RTX.
How we built it
We started with the distribution of work, Anwesh was the head of Graphics and Logo Design, Content Writing and most importantly Music Making. For my part I was involved with the formation of the whole web application and game development basically the coding aspect of NeoWave. Both of us had intermediate to advance level knowledge of our respective domains so we researched on the internet, read official documentations, watched online videos and most importantly learnt from our errors
Challenges we ran into
The major challenge that we ran into was in the making of our bonus game the Space Trooper which was at first being made using Pygame but in the end we decided to stick with JavaScript as I was a little less experienced in using Pygame.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For my part I'm actually proud of myself that I took the decision of taking part in this hackathon as I learnt a lot, I got more knowledge of Git and GitHub, Python and JavaScript, I learnt how to tackle problems while being under a deadline and most importantly I accomplished to not to say "will do at a later time".
