Inspiration
Parents of preterm babies face inconsistent guidance, unclear developmental expectations, social isolation, and difficulty accessing clinicians or local resources. NeoNest was inspired by the need for a single, mobile-first, clinician-validated resource tailored to corrected-age developmental norms.
What it does
NeoNest helps parents:
- Track their baby’s development with corrected-age milestones
- Connect with a moderated community of parents and experts
- Access doctor-backed guidance and an AI-assisted activity/play library (Under development)
How we built it
- Used React Native + TypeScript for cross-platform mobile app
- Kiro AI for spec-to-code generation, workflow automation, and test coverage
- Set up agent hooks for documentation syncing and bug logging
- Implemented authentication, baby profiles, milestone tracking, community, and web preview
- Ensured full unit/integration tests, security, and professional UI/UX
Challenges we ran into
- Corrected age calculations: complex milestone logic requires SME review
- File structuring & code optimization: Kiro sometimes generated long, unstructured code
- Managing context for Kiro effectively across large features
What's next for NeoNest
- Expand corrected-age milestone coverage and expert review
- Add personalized activity/play recommendations using AI
- Adding the AI play feature, currently being developed
- Introduce real-time clinician communication and resource mapping
- Launch pilot testing with parents for feedback and validation
