Inspiration

NeoNest was inspired by two deeply interconnected realities in urban India:

  1. New Mothers’ Struggles: Millions of mothers face fragmented postnatal care, isolation, postpartum depression, and difficulty accessing affordable, trained caregivers once discharged from hospitals.
  2. Women’s Unemployment: At the same time, millions of capable housewives and women with natural caregiving experience remain excluded from the workforce. This contrast — mothers needing care and women needing work became the foundation for NeoNest especially for Southern Asian regions like India, Nepal, Bhutan.

What it does

NeoNest is a neonatal and postnatal care platform that supports new mothers at home while empowering women with dignified employment. It combines caregiving services, cultural traditions, and AI-powered digital tools into one ecosystem.

  • User-Friendly Platform: Mothers can easily book services through a clean, mobile-friendly site, while caregivers can register, train, and get certified. The platform supports regional customization in language, food, and caregiving styles.
  • Home-Based Mother & Baby Care: Services include newborn feeding support, diapering, bathing, massage, and sleep monitoring. Mothers receive emotional support, nutrition guidance, and recovery help, along with traditional postnatal diets prepared by trained caregivers (e.g., gond laddoos, panjiri, herbal kashayas).
  • Women Employment & Training: Housewives and unemployed women are trained and certified in baby care, traditional massage, neonatal safety, and regional diet preparation. Work is flexible and community-based, enabling financial independence and dignity.
  • AI Symptom Checker: Provides instant health guidance for mothers and babies, with recommendations like “normal,” “monitor,” or “consult doctor,” available in local languages.
  • AI Emotional Support Chatbot: A 24/7 virtual companion that helps mothers manage stress, detect postpartum depression, suggest relaxation techniques, and connect to counselors when needed.
  • AI-Powered Personalized Care Plans: Tailors diet, exercise, massage, and baby routines to each mother, with reminders for vaccinations and doctor visits.
  • Community & Knowledge Hub: A safe space where mothers share experiences, while doctors and nutritionists provide verified content. Traditional caregiving practices are preserved and shared for cultural relevance.
  • Safety & Trust: Caregivers are background-checked and certified. The platform ensures transparency with ratings, strict accountability for misconduct, and an emergency button linking directly to hospitals.
  • Affordable Payment System: Flexible hourly, daily, and monthly service packages. Revenue is shared between caregivers and NeoNest, keeping costs accessible while creating sustainable income for women.
In essence, NeoNest ensures mothers receive compassionate, structured care, while women gain new livelihoods through training and flexible work.

How we built it

NeoNest was designed as a digital-first platform with multiple layers:

  • Human Touch:
    • Training and certifying local women in neonatal/postnatal care, traditional massage, nutrition, and baby hygiene.
    • Providing affordable home-based services like mother care, newborn care, and culturally relevant diet preparation.
  • AI Integration:
    • AI Symptom Checker: For mothers to input symptoms and get instant guidance.
    • AI Emotional Support Chatbot: A 24/7 companion that detects postpartum anxiety or depression.
    • Personalized Care Plans: Tailored diet, recovery, and routine suggestions.
  • Community & Marketplace:
    • A safe space for mothers to share experiences, learn from experts, and access curated traditional care content.
    • We combined technology, tradition, and training to create an ecosystem that scales across cities while staying culturally rooted.

Challenges we ran into

Backend not implemented yet: Limited to frontend mockups at this stage.
Trust-building: Mew mothers may hesitate to invite unfamiliar caregivers into their homes.
Training standardization: Women have varied caregiving experience; creating structured modules is complex.
Operational complexity: Coordinating AI tools, caregivers, and partnerships with hospitals/brands.
Time constraints: Hackathon deadlines limited how much functionality could be completed.
Despite these challenges, NeoNest demonstrates that a socially impactful idea can also be commercially viable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Defined a clear hybrid social + business model that solves two pressing issues in urban India.
  • Built a frontend prototype that shows the intended flow for mothers and caregivers.
  • Designed AI-based features that make the platform scalable and inclusive.
  • Developed a roadmap for women empowerment through training and employment.
  • Created an idea that is both socially impactful and commercially viable.

What we learned

  • Balancing Tech, Social Impact, and Business Model.
  • The Importance of User Empathy.
  • Leveraging AI Tools for Rapid Prototyping.
  • Hackathons Value Vision as Much as Code.
  • Role Clarity.
  • Future-Readiness & Scalability.
