Inspiration

I’ve always been drawn to ’80s sci-fi, postapocalyptic worlds, and anything drenched in neon and synth. As an ’80s kid, a geek, and someone deeply inspired by Afrofuturism, this project became the intersection of everything that shaped my imagination. I also listen to instrumental synth music when I need to focus creatively, and that atmosphere helped define the mood of Neon Drifter.

What it does

Neon Drifter tells the story of a lone heroine traveling across a fractured future. The goal was to create something that feels like a snapshot from a larger world—something that makes you wonder who she is and what happened to the place she’s riding through. Good art pulls you deeper, and this project aims to do that in a single, compact sequence.

How we built it

I generated the core visuals with AI tools and then brought everything into CapCut for refinement. I stitched together shots, balanced pacing, cleaned transitions, and layered audio to create a cinematic flow. Learning these tools felt partly creative and partly technical.

Challenges we ran into

AI credits run out fast when you’re iterating, and not every generation matches the vision. I also ran into hallucinations in shots. Removing them or correcting around them while staying within my remaining credits became one of the bigger hurdles.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud that this piece became a complete, cohesive story moment instead of just a collection of clips. The mood, color, character design, and pacing came together in a way that reflects the genres I love. It also pushed me to pick up video and audio editing much faster than I expected.

What we learned

I learned how to edit both video and audio from the ground up, especially within CapCut. I discovered how essential clip timing, rhythm, and transitions are to storytelling. I also learned how to guide AI tools more effectively and how to problem-solve when they drift or hallucinate.

What's next for Neon Drifter

I want to expand this world—either through a longer cinematic sequence, a micro-series, or a more polished trailer. I also plan to keep improving my editing workflow and build a portfolio that blends AI generation with traditional creative techniques. A good piece of art makes you want to learn more about a character and the world they live in. Neon Drifter could be the starting point for a larger vision.
