Inspiration
Neon Dreams was born from a deeply personal place. After my husband's battle with cancer, I saw firsthand how isolation can impact those who are unable to interact with others in person. He spent a lot of time at home, and I wanted to create a space where he—and others in similar situations—could find connection and adventure. This game is designed to be a virtual haven where players can engage with friends, challenge themselves, and explore an imaginative world, all from the safety of their homes.
What It Does
Neon Dreams is a captivating game where players embark on a thrilling, informal race through surreal dreamscapes. Players navigate through a series of fantastical environments, each filled with unique challenges and obstacles. The aim is to have fun and enjoy the journey, with the first to reach the finish line earning ultimate bragging rights. With its vibrant visuals and engaging gameplay, Neon Dreams offers an unforgettable adventure in a world where dreams come to life."
How It Was Built
Neon Dreams was constructed with the collective effort of a vibrant community. By engaging with fellow creators on Discord, immersing myself in tutorials, and utilizing characters and assets from the asset library, I was able to bring this world to life. Generous contributions from community members played a crucial role, making this project a true collaborative effort. Though I assembled the pieces, it was the community's spirit and resources that truly built this world.
Challenges Faced
When I started developing Neon Dreams, I had absolutely no prior experience with world building or game development. Every concept, tool, and technique had to be learned on the fly. I spent countless hours reading tutorials, diving into resources, and figuring out solutions as challenges arose. Balancing this steep learning curve with a full-time job, family responsibilities, and technical hurdles—like losing internet for over a week and a day without electricity—made the journey even more demanding. Despite these obstacles, I remained determined to bring my vision to life, relying on persistence and the supportive community around me.
Accomplishments that We're Proud Of
Throughout the development of Neon Dreams, I've reached several milestones that I'm proud of:
- Community Insights: By immersing myself in the gaming community through Discord and other platforms, I gathered valuable insights and ideas that influenced my game's features and design.
- Innovative Gameplay: I've crafted a unique gameplay experience, blending surreal dreamscapes with challenging obstacles, offering players an adventure like no other.
- First World Creation: I successfully built my first-ever virtual world, a vibrant and immersive environment that serves as the backdrop for my game."
